HTC One with stock Android rumoured for this summer

There is indeed an HTC One running on stock Android OS in the works, according to a recent internet rumour.

Well-informed Twitter user LlabTooFeR, who has proven to have their finger on the HTC pulse on more than one occasion in the past, recently revealed that a “Senseless” HTC One would be making its way to market by the end of the summer.

When questioned over whether they were offering this morsel as a guess or a known fact, the Twitter tipster replied “As a fact.”

Sense is the name given to HTC’s heavily customised user interface, which the company layers over Google’s Android OS on all of its Android phones.

Following Google’s reveal of the Google branded Samsung Galaxy S4 at Google I/O last week, many people wondered whether (and indeed hoped that) HTC would follow suit and open its own Android flagship up to the stock Android treatment.

It’s widely held that the HTC One is the most stylish and most best built Android phone on the market, and pretty much the only one that can stand up to Apple’s iPhone 5 on the design front. But praise of HTC’s own Sense 5 UI has, as ever, been rather more muted (though far from absent).

There’s a growing call for Android devices that feature Google’s increasingly accomplished Android OS in a pure and unfiltered form. Up until recently, the only major devices to push the pure Android OS belong to Google’s official Nexus range.

The announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition has changed all of that, although it appears that it will only be available as an unsubsidised purchase through the Google Play website. The next major step would be to make them available on contract.
