HTC One sales reportedly boosted by Samsung Galaxy S4 comparisons

The HTC One is benefitting from a number of favourable comparison with the high-profile Samsung Galaxy S4, spokespeople for the Taiwanese manufacturer have revealed.

With a number of outlets publishing Samsung Galaxy S4 reviews in which comparisons with the HTC One paint the HTC handset in a positive light, the company has suggested it is already reaping the benefits of the unexpected publicity. While the HTC One was showcased ahead of MWC 2013, the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date saw the latest must-have handset hit retailers on Saturday.

“It’s really been a great week for us,” Mike Woodward, President of HTC North America said in an interview with Business Insider. “We’re seeing brisk sales so far.”

Although the HTC head failed to give further details on specific HTC One sales figures, Woodward did go on to claim that a selection of retail partners are struggling to meet demand for the Android powered device.

On the comparisons he added: “We look at [the Galaxy S4 reviews] through the lens of the HTC One, and it stands up positively. The design seems to be attracting the most attention and we’re really proud of that.”

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One
An area we ourselves highlighted in our own Samsung Galaxy S4 review, Samsung’s latest flagship model does not hold a candle to the luscious, metal backed and highly desirable HTC One on an aesthetical front, with the S3 follow-on suffering from a largely plastic construction that does nothing to support the device’s £600 price tag.

Aside from the two handset’s differing designs, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has come in for criticism for featuring too many gimmicky features, such as the eye tracking Smart Scroll, whereas HTC has focussed on keeping a refined and elegant rendition of Android at the One’s core.

On a hardware front there is little to separate the two new behemoths of the smartphone scene with both the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 playing host to 2GB of RAM, 1080p Full HD displays and quad-core CPUs.

Although the 4.7-inch HTC One is dwarfed slightly by the 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S4, in practise there is little to separate the HTC’s 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor and the 1.9GHz option afforded to Samsung’s own iPhone 5 rival.
