HTC One M9 Hima tipped with MediaTek chip

The chipset of HTC’s rumoured HTC One M9 ‘Hima’ handset is hot topic of contention, and a new entrant has just joined the fray – MediaTek.

Until now, the grapevine disparity saws rumours flitting between Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 chip, and the newer, more powerful Snapdragon 810.

Coming straight out of the Chinese media, as spotted by GForGames, is new talk of the ‘Hima’ running off a high-end MediaTek system-on-a-chip.

MediaTek is a Taiwanese firm that supplies SoCs worldwide, and was the 4th largest integrated chip designed globally back in 2013.

It’s not yet clear whether all HTC One M9 handsets would carry the newly tipped chip, or if it would be limited to Chinese models only.

It’s worth noting that this wouldn’t be the first time HTC has opted for a MediaTek chip.

Last year’s HTC Desire 820 carried a Snapdragon 615 chip, while the 820s made use of a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek 6752 processor instead.

The Snapdragon 810 looks set to appear on a host of this year’s smartphones, so ditching the status quo could see HTC’s upcoming flagship stand out from the crowd.

We’re expecting Qualcomm’s chip to appear on the Sony Xperia Z4, the LG G4, and the Samsung Galaxy S6.

The HTC One M9 should show up shortly after MWC – we’re thinking mid-to-late March – so we don’t have long to wait, at least.
