HTC Nexus X tablet leaks with 64-bit Tegra K1 processor

Claimed HTC Nexus X benchmarks have surfaced, with the heavily rumoured tablet tipped to run a 64-bit Tegra K1 processor.

Expected to launch later this year, the Nexus X is being tipped as a HTC-manufactured follow-on to the hugely popular Nexus 7 tablet line.

With the tablet widely expected to adopt an 8.9-inch display with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, the Nexus X has now popped up on a CPU-Z benchmark report. Teased by TKTech, the leak has shown that Google will overlook the might of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset in favour of the hugely powerful Tegra K1 chip.

Doing the rounds under the codename ‘Denver’, the Tegra K1 chipset has been clocked at 2.5GHz and features 192-Core Kepler GPU architecture.

Yet to feature in any consumer available devices, Tegra has claimed that the K1 is 1.5 times more energy efficient than rival chipsets. With battery drain one of the main concerns for mobile devices, this could be a major boon for the new Nexus.

With the Nexus X now looking likely to become the first device to run the Tegra K1 SoC, the tablet is also expected to help debut the new, recently showcased, Android L OS.

Although Google has yet to offer any official word on the device, it is expected that the tablet will be formally unveiled in October.

The tablet could launch within weeks of the upcoming iPad Air 2 and new iPad mini, as well as touching down within the same window as the next Google phone, the Nexus 6.
