HTC might be making a whole bunch of Nexus phones

It’s being rumoured that HTC has signed a deal with Google to make Nexus phones for the next three years.
Those with long memories and a love of smartphone tech will recall that HTC made the very first Nexus phone, the Nexus One, back in 2010. Since then, other manufacturers have stepped in, though we should point that HTC made the Nexus 9 tablet in 2014.
Now the Taiwanese manufacturer might have won the right to make another Nexus phone. In fact, it could be making several.
According to a report from Chinese website MyDrivers, HTC has signed a deal with Google to make Nexus smartphones for the next three years. Given that this year brought two Nexus phones, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, this could mean as many as six HTC Nexus phones if true.
It seems to accompany rumours that Google is looking to take more of a hands-on approach to the design of its Nexus phones. Signing a single, reliable manufacturer up to a multi-year deal might be a good way to go about this.

One thing’s for sure, Google’s oldest hardware partner (HTC also made the first ever Android phone, the T-Mobile G1) could sure use some help. Sales of the HTC’s phones have been pretty disappointing for a couple of years now, and the luke-warm reception to last year’s HTC One M9 didn’t help.
