HTC Desire 820 announced with 64-bit octa-core processor

With Samsung and Sony announcing new flagship phones this week, HTC, not wanting to be left out has joined the party unveiling the HTC Desire 820.

While the 820 might not hold a candle to the Galaxy Note 4 and Sony Xperia Z3 on paper, the HTC handset is targeting a very different market.

“We are creating a mid-tier hero,” Chialin Chang, HTC’s President of Global Sales stated. “Introducing the HTC Desire 820.”

Darren Sng, HTC’s Global Product Marketing Manager added: “The HTC Desire 820 is about bringing the best of HTC. Simplicity is the very core of the Desire 820.

HTC Desire 820 Features
The first smartphone to come running a 64-bit octa-core processor, the HTC Desire 820 pairs the new Qualcomm chip with a range of impressive feautures.

“This wouldn’t be the Desire 820 if it didn’t push the boundaries,” Sng stated. “The Desire 820 will ship with the world’s first 64-bit octa-core processor from Qualcomm.”

He added: “Perhaps the most important element of the Desire 820 is design.”

The plastic handset has a two-tone body thanks to a new ‘Double Shot Technique’ moulding method. It will come in a variety of colours, including red, blue, pink, black and white. It is 7.74mm thick and 155g in weight.

Featuring a 5.5-inch HD display the Desire 820 adds a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera with low light capabiliites.
That’s not all, the Taiwanese manufacturer is also catering for the selfie lovers out there.

“This is the best front camera we have put on any HTC device to date,” Sng said.

The phone features an 8-megapixel forward facing snapper topped off by a mass of software enhancements.
Live Makeup offers ‘face beautification’ on a sliding scale – for those who need a little sprucing up – while Photo Booth lets you create instant collages.

Running Android 4.4 KitKat, the Desire 820 is guaranteed an Android L update and is skinned with HTC’s Sense 6 UI. It features the BlinkFeed interface and packs BoomSound stereo speakers on the front.
