HTC Aero flagship phone set for autumn reveal

HTC could be readying a brand new flagship smartphone for launch this autumn.

That’s the rumour currently percolating on the internet, and the source of that rumour is an intriguing one.

Evan Blass used to make it his business (under the @evleaks moniker) to provide highly accurate Twitter tips on new smart devices, and his specialty was HTC. He’s officially retired from the tipster game, but he appears to have come out of retirement for one new tip: the HTC Aero.

Though that’s clearly an internal code-name, Blass claims that HTC will reveal its new high-end device this autumn.

Of course, this tallies with new HTC CEO Cher Wang’s statements on the matter. She told investors that the company would be launching a new ‘hero’ phone in October.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any further details or suggested specs as yet, but everything is shaping up for a completely new design from HTC.

The company attracted widespread criticism for the HTC One M9, which many felt stuck too closely to the design playbook of its previous two flagship phones. Since then we’ve seen a new CEO installed at HTC and a new VP of industrial design.

If those factors don’t combine to produce a whole new smartphone in the HTC Aero (or whatever it turns out to be called), we’ll be very surprised indeed.
