HP Recalls 70,000 Laptop Batteries

"Can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard."

Just when you think we’ve heard the last of battery recalls, HP goes and proves you wrong. Apparently unrelated to any previous recall “HP and the battery cell manufacturer believe that certain battery packs shipped in HP notebook PC products manufactured between August 2007and January 2008 may pose a potential safety hazard to customers.”

If you bought an HP laptop during that period you’ll want to check if it’s included in this recall with HP. Unless you don’t care that these “batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard.” Probably not issues to be blasé about.

If you’re battery is affected, you’ll get a replacement for free, so there isn’t any reason not to check. With 70,000 or so batteries being recalled, the chances of having a potentially deadly unit probably aren’t that low.
