Prints, scans, faxes, connects to the Internet.
I’ve often considered, when looking to buy a Printer, that nice as it is it could do with being just a little more web-connected and it looks like HP may have answered by prayers. With the HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web HP is launching the world’s first web-connected printer, giving “quick, easy, touchscreen access to popular digital content.”
Collaborating with the likes of Google, Weathernews Inc and DreamWorks, HP’s TouchSmart Web interface enables web-based data to be accessed and printed without the need for a PC. Possible content includes weather reports, recipes, film tickets and maps – with more sources likely to be added later.
The 4.3in touchscreen should prove large enough for the custom-designed applications HP is providing. Currently there’s no facility for browsing the ‘real’ Internet, but there’s no saying such functionality couldn’t be added eventually.
Web-connected shenanigans aside the Photosmart Premium will also serve normal inkjet printing, scanning and faxing duties. Bluetooth connectivity is present, so printing from a mobile phone – or, in fact, any device that will print via Bluetooth – is possible.
The HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web will arrive this autumn, so try not to lose your senses in anticipation.
