HP Introduces New iPaqs

HPs announces a flurry of new iPaqs for both business users and consumers.

While major manufacturers such as Sony and Toshiba are pulling out of the PDA market, HP is consolidating its position as market leader in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), with the release of four new iPaqs. The company has new units to suit both mobile workers and consumers. Each of new machines sports a fresh design, and runs Windows Mobile 2003.

The h6340 is a universal communications device with, built-in quad-band GSM, GPRS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth all integrated. Powered by a 200MHz Texas instruments OMAP CPU; it runs Microsoft Windows Pocket PC Phone Edition. It features 64MB of SDRAM, 55MB of which is user accessible.

It will be available from September with a street price of around £480.

The hx4700 is a dual memory slot machine, that will accept both Compact Flash and SD cards. It also integrates both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. What’s really new is the touchpad interface on a four inch TFT display offering a resolution of 640 x 480. This is powered by a 624MHz processor.

It also offers an amazing 135MB of user accessible memory. The hx4700 will also be available in September with a street price of £449.

rz1710 is more of an entry level device with a QVGA display that can be displayed in portrait or landscape mode. It offers an integrated SD card slot along with 25MB of user accessible memory and is powered by a 203MHz Samsung S3C2410 CPU.

The rz1710 will be relatively affordable at only £199.

Finally, there’s the rx3715, which includes HP’s Mobile Media software enabling users to wirelessly browse content such as video, pictures and audio using the built in Wi-Fi. It also includes the Nevo Home Control software, enabling the PDA to act as a universal remote control. It also integrates a 1.2 Mega pixel camera, making it ideal as a cool gadget to have around the house. Bluetooth is also integrated.

Powered by a 400MHz CPU it offers a QVGA, 3.5in screen, and an SD card expansion slot. There is however, a generous 152MB of user accessible memory. The rx3715 will cost around £370.
