HP Envy Rove 20 portable all-in-one PC announced

HP has joined the nascent market for portable all-in-one desktop PCs with the announcement of the HP Envy Rove 20.

With this announcement, HP joins the likes of the Sony VAIO Tap 20 and the Dell XPS 18 in the realm of massive Windows 8 tablet-PCs designed for lugging around your house and working from any flat surface that takes your fancy.

Like the aforementioned Sony VAIO Tap 20, the HP Envy Rove 20 (seriously, these names) is a 20-inch, 1600 x 900 touchscreen tablet with a fold-away kickstand. In common with a tablet – and unlike a traditional all-in-one PC – the Rove 20 has its own power supply in the shape of a battery that’s good for four hours of usage.

Still, in performance terms it’s every inch the PC, with Intel’s latest generation of a Haswell processors powering the hybrid device. You also get a 1TB hybrid hard drive (complete with an 8GB SSD for speedy caching), next-gen 802.11ac Wi-Fi, three USB ports, and Beats Audio tuning for its tiny built-in speakers and subwoofer.

Of course, with specs and dimensions like these we use the term ‘portable’ loosely. Weighing some 5.3kg, you won’t lugging the HP Envy Rove 20 to your local coffee shop in a hurry.

In keeping with its ability to by tilted almost flat and its 10-point touchscreen display, the Rove 20 will come with Monopoly and a bunch of card games preinstalled.

Expect the HP Envy Rove 20 to hits shops some time in July. No pricing details have been confirmed.
