HP Berlin 2008: iPAQ 914 Series Business Messenger

3G, QWERTY keyboard, Windows Mobile 6.1. What's not to like?

As hard as it may be to believe, we are capable of pricking our ears up to smartphone news not of the Apple-flavoured iPhone variety. Take the HP iPAQ 914 for instance, sure it may not have the repute of the iPhone, but that doesn’t mean its feature set and (arguably) good looks can’t be given a chance to wow the general populous in a similar fashion.

Running on Windows Mobile 6.1 the iPAQ 914 offers 3G (HSDPA), a touch-sensitive screen and a front-mounted QWERTY keyboard. Bluetooth and WiFi are also sported, as one would expect of such a device, so connectivity is likely to be the least of the 914’s problems.

GPS is also on board, although it will be down to either networks or purchasers to supply software to use it. This isn’t an HP-exclusive ‘feature’ though and of course we’d rather see a receiver than not. HPs Enterprise Mobility Suite is supported, allowing the iPAQ 914 to be managed remotely from a central server, updating software and so forth as required.

HP says that the iPAQ 914 should be available before the 30th of June and, in the UK, it will carry a street price of £369. Presumably with varying contracts that price will head closer to free.
