How did an iPhone survive a 2,500ft drop, when ours can’t handle 2ft?

There are two types of people in the world; those who’ve forgotten their phone is on their lap, stood up quickly and sent the device on an ill-fated journey towards the earth… and then there are liars.

When our smartphones struggle to survive seemingly innocuous spills, it makes one woman’s tale of an iPhone falling 2,500-feet from a bloody airplane and living to tell the tale all the more miraculous.

Jeannine Buck of British Columbia was taking photos from a light craft when dropping her iPhone 5S out of the window.

Rather than discover a mangled Apple device upon inspection, she found the was able use Find My iPhone to find her iPhone in perfect working order and with only minor damage.

Buck, who changed her ringtone from the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive that morning, called it a “miracle.”

“I had no idea the wind would grab it from my hand. Lesson learned for sure,” she told Abbynews.com.

I won’t be taking pictures on a plane beside an open window ever again, that’s for certain!

Any theories for how the 2013 iPhone 5S survived such an epic spill when we’ve smashed phones from a seated position?  A soft landing or an act of God?
