House of Marley’s new earphones fix the one annoying thing about recycling

House of Marley has launched the Smile Jamaica Wireless 2 earphones in a new design, at a lower price and with a number of environmentally friendly features.

The Smile Jamaica Wireless 2 build on top of the the original’s design, using the same FSC certified wood and recyclable aluminium housings, while also tweaking the braided cable which is now made from 99% post-consumer plastic waste sourced from recycled water bottles.

Not only that, but the packaging the new Smile Jamaica earphones come in has been given an eco-conscious makeover. The headphones will now ship in 100% paper fibre packaging, meaning you won’t need to separate the materials before chucking it in the recycling bin. That makes it easier than ever to do right by the environment.

As far as specs are concerned, the Wireless 2 feature Bluetooth 5.0, an IPX4 water resistance rating and boast nine hours of battery; with a quick charge offering two hours of playtime from a 15 minute charge.

Other improvements that House of Marley have made include removing weight from the Smile Jamaica Wireless’ bulky neckband, leaving just the tangle-resistant, braided cable. The three button control panel features a microphone for calls.

Two ear tip sizes are available (S, M), as well as a choice of three colours – Copper, Signature Black and Rasta.

On the new earphones, House of Marley Director of Product Development Josh Poulsen said: “It was important for us to make it easier for the consumer to make a conscious decision toward recycling the packaging and one that did not compromise our commitment to sustainable design”.

“Our packaging has always positioned us to stand out within the consumer electronics industry as we have made a conscious effort to use FSC certified materials, recycled paper, recycled PET casing and paper fibre ties instead of the plastic standard. Our move to 100% paper fibre packaging means that the entire package contents can now be put into the single mixed-paper recycle bin without a hassle to separate inserts of different materials, a common issue when it comes to the recycling process”.

The Smile Jamaica Wireless 2 are available to buy from House of Marley, Amazon, HMV and select retailers for £29.99.
