House of Cards to break from Netflix exclusivity with Blu-ray release

House of Cards, the hit TV series from Netflix, is to break its period of exclusivity with the media streaming service, launching on Blu-ray and DVD later this year.
Having become an instant hit following its recent Netflix release, it has been confirmed that a House of Cards Blu-ray and DVD release will be held on June 10, just months after the show forwent traditional broadcast channels to launch as an on,one exclusive.
The first time that the US remake of the original British series will be available away from the subscription-based streaming service, the upcoming House of Cards Blu-ray and DVD release will see the Kevin Spacey staring show made available in physical form for those still lagging behind the move to digital, on-demand media.
Having helped pave the way for a new breed of online and digital only content, the House of Cards series is seemingly set to make a transition away from the likes of traditional, scheduled broadcasting.
Hot on the heels of the smash success, House of Cards already has a number of successors in the works, with hit comedy Arrested Development to be revived for online audiences. On top of this, Netflix recently confirmed that it is working with Matrix masterminds the Warchowski brothers on a new, exclusive sci-fi series, Sense8.
Although it is currently unclear whether or not the House of Cards Blu-ray and DVD release will see the 13 episode strong series paired with new, bonus content, with the series still available to view on Netflix, it is believed the show will need such a hook to tempt fans into splashing out for the physical form.
Despite the House of Cards Blu-ray and DVD releases still a couple of months away, the pair of three disc box-sets have already been made available for pre-order. Kicking off the advanced orders, Amazon is offering then Blu-ray and DVD title for a rather reasonable £28 and £21.50 respectively.
