Honor View 10 gets improved Face Unlock features thanks to a software update

An update to the Honor View 10 has brought an enhanced version of the Face Unlock feature to the handset created by the Huawei sub-brand.

When the Honor View 10 launched its Face Unlock feature only offered the ability to use the facial recognition tech to check notifications on the handset.

But with the B130 over-the-air software update, the View 10’s Face Unlock is enhanced with a suite of new features.

Now the handset can recognise when a user it looking at it and will turn off the display when they are not peering at the screen. Face Unlock can now also detect the positioning of the phone in relation to a user’s face and adjust the orientation of the screen to best suit how a person is looking at it.

Granted, the level of functionality the Face Unlock is offering can’t compare to that of Face ID on the iPhone X; you can’t authorise payments using Honor’s Face Unlock due to the low-level security it has.

But the View 10 is a significantly more affordable smartphone that the iPhone X, so its biometric shortcomings are easier to swallow.

The update also brings in a few additional features for the View 10, including smart motion detection for the front and rear cameras, artificial intelligence assisted camera zoom, and the option to change background images when using the cameras.

The software update for the Honor View 10 is currently being rolled out and should be widely available to all handsets by January 24.
