Honeywell’s affordable Single Zone Thermostat comes to UK

Honeywell has launched its smart-but-affordable Single Zone Thermostat in the UK.

Back in June the company launched the Honeywell Lyric, an advanced and stylish smart thermostat clearly aimed at taking on  young pretender (and Google acquisition) Nest at its own game.

That was a US launch, however. Over here in the UK, Honeywell’s smart thermostat offering isn’t particularly impressive.

Enter the Honeywell Single Zone Thermostat, which has already been launched elsewhere in Europe. The intention here is to add smart features to your existing traditional heating set-up without the need for expensive equipment (beyond the thermostat itself, of course).

The Single Zone Thermostat’s key ability is to let you monitor and adjust the heating in your home from your smartphone, both locally and remotely over the internet.

You’ll still need to program your heating schedules with the Single Zone Thermostat – it doesn’t have the smart learning features of Nest’s offering. But then, the Honeywell device costs just £139, which is £40 less than the Nest.

One advanced optional feature of the Single Zone Thermostat is the ability to plug into Honeywell’s refined Evohome system, which gives you room-by-room heating control – provided you splash out for Honeywell’s smart radiator valves for each room.

All in all, the Single Zone Thermostat seems like it could be a good place to start if you want to gradually and affordably smarten up your home’s heating system.
