Hideo Kojima to be inducted into Gaming Hall of Fame

Hideo Kojima is set to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) Hall of Fame this February.

Hideo Kojima – the mastermind behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise – is a beloved figure in the hearts of gamers, crafting a legacy of games across multiple generations.

This February, Kojima will be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame.

Kojima will be the 21st inductee into the Hall of Fame when the ceremony takes place at the DICE (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards on 18 February.

The award will be presented by none other than Guillermo del Toro.

The Pacific Rim and Pan’s Labyrinth director previously worked with Kojima on Silent Hills, until it was suddenly cancelled by Konami.

Kojima and del Toro still wish to work with each other in the future given the opportunity, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed for now.

“Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement,” AIAS president Martin Rae said.

“As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it’s a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes have always looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the DICE Summit stage.”

Previous inductees include Valve’s Gabe Newell and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney. The very first inductee was Shigeru Miyamoto, way back in 1998.

Last month, Hideo Kojima left long-term employer Konami to form his own studio in a partnership with Sony.

Kojima Production’s next game will be a console exclusive to PS4, and will also be coming to PC.
