Heavy Rain developer already producing PS4 game

Heavy Rain developer, Quantic Dream, has revealed that it is already working on a PS4 game, despite the fact Beyond: Two Souls won’t be released until October on the PS3.

Guillaume de Fondaumière, CEO of Quantic Dream, said the PS4 title will be another classic Quantic Dream title based on story- and character-driven gameplay.

“Innovation is part of our DNA,” said de Fondaumière. “We’ve never duplicated ourselves. We never clone ourselves or other people’s projects; we always try to create unique experiences.”

“For us, a new console is another reason to try and innovate. What is certain is that whatever we’re working on on PS4 is not going to resemble what we’re doing on PS3… We’re going to try and reinvent ourselves.”

When asked how developing for PS4 compares to what they have done for the PS3, he explained it was “incomparable” and the PS4’s PC-based innards made it “very easy” to work with.

“We’ll be able to express ourselves in a more straightforward way. So it’s perfect, it’s excellent.”

Beyond: Two Souls

At a recent event at Quantic Dream studio’s headquarters in Paris, more was revealed about its upcoming PS3 game, Beyond: Two Souls. Starring Ellen Page as Jodie Holmes, a young girl with a psychic connection to mysterious entity Aiden, who the player can also take control of, a Beyond: Two Souls release date has been set for October 8, exclusively for the PS3.

Quantic Dream also revealed that Willem Dafoe will be joining the Beyond: Two Souls cast as a government scientist tasked with discovering more about Holmes’ character and psychic powers.

Unlike Heavy Rain, de Fondaumière has said that the next PS3 title will not utilise PlayStation Move technology to control its characters.

“At one point with Heavy Rain, we felt that Move would be interesting, and therefore we implemented it. It’s not the case, at least not for now, on Beyond… We don’t think Move is necessary. We can do everything we need to be doing with the Dualshock Controller.”

“The same applies to 3D. First of all, very few people have a 3D TV. Second, we are really pushing the PS3 to its last resorts. We are at the frontier. It would be impossible to keep the same quality and have it rendered in 3D,” added de Fondaumière.

The PS4 is due to launch sometime in the “holiday 2013” period, with PC grade innards expected to offer a currently unrivalled console gaming experience. That is until Microsoft unveils the Xbox 720.
