Microsoft has announced a brand new entry in the Halo franchise on stage at E3 2018, Halo Infinite.
So far details are scarce on the new title. We know it’ll be developed by 343 Industries (who took over the reigns after Halo Reach), and it’ll apparently use a new engine called ‘Slipspace’. It’s unclear whether Infinite is a direct sequel to Halo 5, or if it’s a spin off game.
You can watch the trailer for yourself below.
Given the sheer absence of details in the trailer it’s hard to know how far away Infinite is. Don’t expect anything in 2018, and even 2019 might be a stretch.
In its heyday Halo was one of the biggest gaming franchises on the planet, but since Bungie has moved on to Destiny the series has felt torn between staying true to its roots, and keeping up with an ever-evolving shooter landscape.
The lack of a number in the game’s title suggests that 343 might be about to try something new and interesting with the series, but we’ll have to wait for more information before we know for sure.
