Half Life 3 text files found in DOTA 2 code
A number of Half Life 3 related files have cropped up in the latest DOTA 2 update.
It’s been almost a decade since the release of Half Life 2: Episode Two, and Valve are yet to give use a single piece of information on the whereabouts of the third installment.
So we’re happy to speculate on whatever evidence we can find, including some text files in a recent MOBA update.
DOTA 2’s latest update contained some unusual text files, many of which could be linked to Half Life 3.
The text files in question can be found here, but there are a few that really caught our eye.
A text file labelled hl3.txt contains a number of files that reference ziplines, squads, NPCs and VR.
Subsequent files such as “npc.quest/citizen” and “vrmovement” hint at a variety of different mechanics that could be included in the game.

There is no way to prove these files are genuine, or have anything to do with Half Life 3 for that matter. Hell, the game might not even be in development.
Half Life 3 as a VR title is an interesting thought however, and quite a plausible one when you consider Valve’s current position.
Valve’s VR headset, the HTC Vive is set to launch in Q1 2016, so maybe they will finally spill the beans on Half Life 3 next year?
For all we know this could an elaborate hoax conjured up to tease us; we really hope it isn’t.
