When is Amazon Prime Day 2019 in the USA?
Prime Day falls across all locations on the same day, however we’re usually kept in the dark about exactly what date until closer to the time. That said, with all Prime Days in the last four years falling around the mid-July mark, we’re almost certain Amazon won’t keep us waiting beyond then. Regardless, we’ll keep you in the know.
What Were the Top Prime Day Deals for 2018?
It comes as no surprise Amazon’s assortment of fantastic voice controlled gadgets were a top priority for a lot of Prime subscribers for Prime Day 2018. The Echo Dot (2nd Gen) was a big hit, especially with our Trusted Reviews readers, alongside the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Remote bundle. Under those all-important home safety items, the First Alert Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector was a hot favourite. Safety first, kids. Alexa made another appearance with the unlocked Moto X (4th Gen) with hands-free Alexa included. SanDisk memory cards were also in high demand, along with the 23andMe DNA tests.

Why Was Amazon Boycotted on Prime Day 2018?
Unlike the crash of the site, which was largely centred in the US, Amazon staff decided to strike across Europe. Constantly under scrutiny for its working conditions, Amazon staff made a pretty big statement by walking out on Prime Day. In turn, many consumers also chose to boycott the day in support on a far more widespread scale.
From pay and hours, to working conditions, Amazon has been under fire by its employees, but it sure was a real PR hit on what could be deemed one of the most important days of the calendar for Amazon (perhaps only after Black Friday and Cyber Monday). With the timing of the site then crashing, we’re not sure whether a few hours of down time was a stroke of luck, taking the pressure off whilst workers were busy striking?
Did Amazon Crash on Prime Day 2018?
Although there were issues across Amazon’s pages in a number of locations, the US took the biggest hit in terms of outage times and money lost. Of the 36 hours in which the Prime Day festivities were meant to run, the US page was only live for a total of 24 — at least it hit the full day mark so as not to incorrectly market Prime Day though, right?
Not the best way to kick off Prime Day, the Amazon page was completely out for the first 15 minutes of one of the retailer’s biggest sale events of the year. Continuing to have sporadic outage issues throughout the day, the longest period of inactivity was 63 minutes and a speculated $100 million was lost for just that over an hour of outage alone.
With problems ranging from simply not being able to access the homepage to links not working and baskets emptying, it was a less than ideal start (middle and end) to Prime Day 2018. All because of an oversight determining the amount of servers necessary to meet demand. Not only did this affect eager shoppers seeking out a deal, but other services like Prime Video. Even Twitch and Alexa’s systems were affected.
