GTA V release date confirmed for spring 2013

Update: Rockstar has confirmed that the GTA 5 release date will now be held on September 17, missing its previously planned ‘spring 2013’ arrival.

After countless rumours and much speculation, publisher Rockstar Games has confirmed the GTA V UK release date with the next Grand Theft Auto instalment to touch down in spring 2013.

Although an exact date of release has yet to be confirmed, Rockstar, and parent company Take Two, have revealed that following a number of leaks, a GTA V release date will indeed be held in spring 2013 with the next-generation crime title to launch for Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers first.

Whilst a PC bound rendition of the game has yet to be mentioned, Rockstar has offered a couple of tantalising insights into the upcoming release with an expansive environment seemingly set to feature a selection of new in-game terrains ranging from “mountaintops to the depths of the ocean.”

Officially unveiled earlier this year, confirmed GTA V features and details have been sparse in recent months with a selection of GTA V screenshots backed up by a hearty collection of rumours and murmurings suggesting the game could launch anytime from pre-Christmas to late next year. Yesterday a selection of prematurely outed marketing materials revealed the next Grand Theft Auto offering would be hitting retailers in early 2013 with pre-orders to open in the coming days.

Speaking on the newly confirmed spring 2013 GTA V release date, Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser said: “Grand Theft Auto V builds on everything we’ve learned about open world game design. He added: “We can’t wait to share it with fans.”

Describing the game as the “most ambitious title in the series to date,” Houser added: “Set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and the surrounding area, Grand Theft Auto V delivers a world of unprecedented scale and detail bursting with life, from mountaintops to the depths of the ocean.”

With finalised GTA V price details yet to be revealed, Rockstar Games has confirmed that ahead of the spring release, GTA V pre-orders will kick off next week with those eager to secure their copy of the GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas follow-on able to do so from November 5th.
