GTA 5 soundtrack officially detailed by Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has offered the first details on the GTA 5 soundtrack, revealing that it’s the biggest score it has ever produced.

It seems GTA 5 will not only be a huge, vast expanse of a game, but will also be jam packed full of audio goodness.

The GTA 5 soundtrack and score contains 240 licensed songs, two talk and 15 music radio stations. It will contain exclusive music content from Flying Lotus and Tyler the Creator too.

“We have 15 radio stations, two talk radio stations, 240 licensed songs, and somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies worth of score,” said Ivan Pavlovich, Rockstar Games’ Soundtrack Supervisor. “It’s the largest soundtrack that we’ve done, and the largest score that we’ve done.”

In fact, GTA 5 is the first game in the series to boast its very own music score. A joint effort from three separate sources, the GTA 5 score was composed by Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson – who created the Red Dead Redemption score and assisted on the L.A. Noire soundscape – and L.A. hip-hop producers Alchemist and Oh No.

“The score plays during missions and the open world gameplay, and during online play. It’s completely dynamic, and engineered very similar to what we’ve done in the past with our interactive stem system – it responds to what you’re doing with your character.”

GTA 5 radio stations will have some special guests too. Rockstar has already confirmed that model Cara Delevigne is the DJ for the Non-Stop-Pop FM station, Nate Williams and Stephen Pope of Wavves are the DJs for Vinewood Boulevard Radio, and the legendary DJ Pooh hosts West Coast Classics.

“For this game, which is set in our version of modern day Los Angeles, what was important for us was to capture that feeling of L.A. and California. We approached the radio stations as the music soundscape [you experience] as you fly into L.A. One of the things we’ve never done in a GTA game before is a pop station; exploring that made so much sense in the context of L.A.”

Rockstar Games has released samples from the radio stations for the GTA 5 soundtrack on Soundcloud. Give them a listen and continue to be very excited for the September 17 release date.
