With the GTA 5 release date now just hours away, UK retailers have confirmed that more than 2,000 stores up and down the country will be holding GTA 5 midnight openings.
One of the most eagerly awaited games of the year, the September 17 GTA 5 release date is expected to see the Rockstar title become the fastest selling of all time. Ensuring gamers are able to get their mitts on the game as early as possible, more than 2,000 stores across the UK are expected to hold GTA 5 midnight openings.
While HMV was the first to confirmed its GTA 5 release date midnight opening plans earlier this month, a raft of rivals including specialist retailer GAME, a selection of supermarket chains and a number of independent outlets are all set to fling open their doors as the clocks tick into Tuesday morning.

Ensuring that GTA 5 is available to all as and when they want it, GAME has also revealed that it has planned for those with slightly earlier curfews. The company representative added: “Not only that, but many stores will be opening at 8:30am for those who can’t quite make it to the midnight opening, giving you another chance to start playing it ahead of the rest of the country.”
Set to be available on the high street and at a selection of out-of-town locations, the GTA 5 midnight openings will include a massive 750 Tesco stores, over 300 GAME outlets, 248 BlockBuster shops, 270 Asda locations and 65 Grainger Games. With HMV, other supermarkets, Game Centre’s and independent retailers thrown in for good measure, the GTA 5 midnight openings will number more than 2,000 locations.
Making its own announcement via its official Twitter feed recently, retailer HMV has confirmed that it will hold GTA 5 release date midnight openings at a selection of stores which have yet to be detailed.
“We’re pleased to announce we’ll be hosting midnight openings for #GTAV across the country,” the retailer announced via the micro blogging site.
In a separate Tweet, the company added: “Keep your eyes peeled to the feeds as we’ll be confirming the stores involved in the midnight openings in the coming days.”
Although yet to announce their plans, it is expected that a number of supermarket chains will also start selling the game at midnight on the 17th.
