GTA 5 release date confirmed by Rockstar as September 17

The eagerly awaited GTA 5 release date is finally official with developer Rockstar confirming the game will miss its previous spring 2013 billing with a finalised GTA 5 release date set for September 17.

Having previously been tipped for launch in a rather vague ‘spring 2013’ launch window, Rockstar has confirmed that the GTA 5 release date will miss its planned arrival, instead touching down later in the year with  Tuesday, September 17 the date to be pencilled into diaries.

“Today, we have an official release date to share with you,” an official Rockstar spokesperson announced via the company’s blog. “Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.”

Apologising for its late billing, Rockstar’s blog posting added: “We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time.

“GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require,” the developer added.

With GTA 5 pre-order kicking off months ago, Rockstar continued its apology for the delayed GTA 5 release date by adding: “To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be.

“We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”

Arguably the most eagerly awaited game of the year, Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive have confirmed that the GTA 5 release date will see the title touch down for PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers. A GTA 5 PC release is reportedly in the works but has yet to be confirmed.

Revolving around a three of central characters, the upcoming GTA 5 release date will see gamers take the reigns of Franklin, Michael and Trevor as the trio look to take control of Los Santos, a virtual replication of real world Los Angeles.

“Grand Theft Auto V continues to push the series forward in new ways; Rockstar North are creating our deepest, most beautiful and most immersive world yet,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We are very excited for people to learn more about the game in the coming months.”
