GTA 5 is all about “immediate and total immersion” says Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has said the GTA 5 experience is all about “immediate and total immersion” for the player.

In a new interview, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies details how the developer has crafted GTA 5 to be the most immersive game in the series, despite its multi-character lineup.

According to Benzies, GTA 5’s characters will help draw the player deep into the game from the outset, and will feature “very intense missions from the start” making the game the fastest paced in the series.

“From the beginning, we want to show off the new game mechanics while creating intense, action-packed gameplay, to capture the player’s attention immediately”, said Benzies.

The first game in the GTA series to feature a playable multiple character line-up, Rockstar Games has deliberately written the storyline so that all three characters are already familiar with the city of Los Santos to help that “sense of immediate and total immersion.”

“Remember that the three characters in the game are already living in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas. They are not newcomers like Niko and Tommy Vercetti, or people returning after a long absence like CJ.”

Players will be able to switch between Michael, Trevor and Franklin both within missions and outside of them, and the fact they already have established lives within the city is important for the action to continue even when the player isn’t controlling the characters.

“They already have contacts, they are integrated with the world and lead a busy life – these characteristics should give players a sense of immediate and total immersion.”

Despite the character swapping showcased in the recently released GTA 5 gameplay trailer (also included below for your viewing pleasure), all three characters will not be accessible from the opening of the game.

“We want to give the players the opportunity to get to know the three characters individually, and explore the world as each of them, and it would not have been possible if all three had been available at the start.”

GTA 5 will be released on September 17 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
