Great British Bake Off Final 2016: Start time, challenges, and how to watch GBBO online

The original 12 Great British Bake Off contestants have been whittled down to just three. Who will win? Here’s our guide to watching the GBBO final tonight.

When is the Bake Off final?

The Bake Off final is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26, 2016, and will start at 20:00 (BST) sharp.

You’ll also be able to relive the action with the Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, which will air directly afterwards at 21:30 (BST).

How to watch the Bake Off final?

As usual, tonight’s episode of Bake Off will be broadcast on BBC One. You can watch it live online for free here:

Remember that whether you’re watching it live or not, you’ll still need a TV license. A recent change in the law means that now a person watching any BBC programmer on iPlayer – live, catch-up, or on-demand – will need a valid TV license.

What to expect?

After Selasi’s heartbreaking departure last week, there are now just three candidates remaining:

  • Candice, 31, a PE teacher
  • Jane, 61,a garden designer
  • Andrew, 25, an aerospace engineer

Here’s what the BBC has to say about the upcoming episode:

The last signature challenge sees a return to meringues, a challenge that a few of the bakers stumbled over in week six

For the technical challenge, Mary has made a simple bake very, very tough, as she has only given the bakers one recipe instruction. The rest is down to them. It may be a very British classic, but with no measurements, this is the ultimate test of the final three bakers’ intuition.

Then on the final day, as the bakers’ families gather outside the tent, the finalists face their last showstopper. This is the most complex one ever seen on Bake Off, and there are the most bakes ever requested in a challenge. With only one oven, it’s five solid hours of baking for the finalists to prove they deserve the winner’s trophy.

You may be surprised to learn that there isn’t actually a prize for winning the Great British Bake Off, save for a bunch of flowers and a cake stand. That said, there’s a chance that the winner will be offered lucrative television, book, or advertising deals. Oh, and eternal cakey glory, of course.
