Gran Turismo 6 officially unveiled with trailer and screenshots

Gran Turismo 6 was officially launched last night at a dedicated GT6 Polyphony event at Silverstone with a new trailer and a bunch of screenshots.
A few details leaked yesterday after a Gran Turismo 6 press release appeared online, but series creator Kaazunori Yamauchi officially unveiled the series’ next instalment at a dedicated event at British race track, Silverstone.
“I’d like to announce today that we are developing Grand Turismo 6 for the holiday season this year on the PlayStation 3,” said Yamauchi. “The game engine will be renewed for GT6, we’ll be cleaning it up, making it smoother for the future.”
The game will launch with a 1,200 strong line-up of cars, including all the vehicles from Gran Turismo 5, which has sold 10 million copies to date.
Polyphony also revealed the first Gran Turismo 6 teaser trailer showing the Silverstone Circuit, which is one of seven new locations to be featured in the game. There will be 33 tracks available to race in the game with 71 different track layout variations and 19 of those are new for Gran Turismo 6.
“We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments.”
A firm Gran Turismo 6 release date has not be confirmed, except for Polyphony’s loose “holiday 2013” listing for the PlayStation 3. Earlier this week, a Gran Turismo 6 PS4 release was teased by online retailers, suggesting the game will launch for Sony’s next-gen console too.
“I am very pleased with everything about the new game and new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo.”
More footage of Gran Turismo 6 will be shown at E3 2013 and gamescom this year, so look out for potential Gran Turismo gameplay footage in June.
