GoPro Hero4 update to enable 240fps slo-mo video and more
GoPro has announced a new firmware update for its Hero4 action camera range, adding new features such as 240fps slo-mo video.
In an official blog post, the GoPro team has outlined a so-called “February Firmware Update” for the Hero4.
There are six new features coming in all, spread across the Hero4 Black and Hero4 Silver. Both will receive the ability to capture time lapse videos automatically, with no post-production needed.
Another new shared feature will be a “30/6 burst photo” mode, which enables you to capture a rapid-fire burst of 30 photos in just six seconds. Less exciting but no less useful will be an auto rotate facility that will automatically adjust capture orientation when the camera is mounted upside down.
Possibly the most exciting new feature is reserved for the high-end Hero4 Black, though. You will soon be able to capture smooth slo-mo videos at 720p and 240fps (that’s double the default frame rate), rather like the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This was a feature that was mooted for the Hero4 Black ahead of release, but didn’t make the initial package.

The Hero4 black’s 2.7K video capture also gets a boost to 60fps, which is up from 50fps. Aside from the initial three additions, the Hero4 Silver gains the ability to add HiLight Tags during playback.
This latest GoPro Hero4 firmware update will rollout next month.
