GoPro Hero3+ smaller and sharper action camera announced

GoPro has announced a new version of its popular rugged HD video camera, the Hero3+.

The GoPro Hero3+ sees a number of improvements over the GoPro Hero3. The range-topping Black Edition is 20 percent smaller, for a start, as well as being lighter.

Despite this impressive size reduction, the GoPro Hero3+ boasts a significant improvement in battery performance. It lasts 30 percent longer than the older, bulkier models.

We’re not just talking about a smaller Hero3, either. The GoPro Hero3+ also features improved optics, which give a claimed 33 percent increase in image sharpness. This despite a two-fold reduction in artefacts.

The footage you can shoot on the Hero3+ might be sharper, but transferring it to your computer should be even quicker thanks to four times faster Wi-Fi transfers.

There’s also a new SuperView mode, which promises to capture “the world’s most immersive wide-angle perspective,” as well as an Auto Low Light mode that intelligently adjusts the frame rate depending on the lighting conditions.

The Silver Edition has also been improved. It’s twice as powerful yet 15 percent smaller and lighter than the older model, and it too boasts a 30 percent boost in battery performance.

You can also now shoot 1080p video at 60fps or 720p at 120fps on the entry-level model.

The GoPro Hero3+ will be available from the GoPro website from this week at a cost of $399 / £359.99 for the Black Edition and $299 / £279.99 for the Silver Edition.
