GoPro Awards offers $5 million a year to video-makers

GoPro is readying up to shell out some serious cash to content creators using its cameras.

The action-cam company has launched the GoPro Awards, an ongoing program that will reward video-makers with prize money.

Anyone from the GoPro community can enter, sharing their best photos, raw clips, and video edits.

Submissions could end up in GoPro Channel programming and licensing, but there’s also cash up for grabs.

The GoPro Awards scheme will fork out up to $5 million every single year to creators of content that “emotionally engages, amazes, or excites”.

GoPro enables a global movement of self-expression that’s resulting in some of the most compelling user-generated content ever created,” says Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO.

Woodman continues: “The positive impact on our brand and business has been immeasurable. Now we’re excited to start rewarding our customers for their content contributions with GoPro Awards.”

If you want to enter a photo or video, head over to this link, and submit your work.

There are also going to be content challenges in a range of genres, which include: Action, Adventure, Animals, Family, Motorsports, Music, Sports, Science and How-To, and Travel.

For an excellent photo, you could win $500, while a formidable video edit may result in a $5,000 payout.

According to GoPro, winners will be chosen daily; although remember that by submitting work, you are signing up to a licensing agreement.

The agreement reads: “You grant to GoPro and its licensees, successors and assigns a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, right and license.”

GoPro can also modify your content, redistribute it anywhere it wants, and include it in any type of media, including press materials and broadcast advertisements.

Our customers are some of the most creative people on the planet. A key component of our programming strategy is user generated content,” explains Woodman.

He continues: “GoPro Awards creates exciting opportunities for our customers. Whether it’s helping them monetise their content in the form of financial rewards, helping to license their content to other businesses, or helping them get more exposure through our global social and media distribution channels, we’re dedicated to sharing with our community.”

Woodman adds: “We believe this program enables our customers to further pursue their passions.”
