Google X Phone with 5-inch display set for Google I/O?

Rumours surrounding the so-called Google X Phone are appearing once again, this time to suggest that Motorola is working on a 5-inch device for a May launch.
According to DroidForums, “hidden friends in high places within the industry” have claimed that Google will unveil its Motorola-produced X Phone at the Google I/O event in May.
The rumours suggest that the X Phone – as it has apparently been dubbed within Google’s and Motorola’s walls – will follow the current trend and adopt a 5-inch display. What’s more, it’ll be an edge-to-edge example, which means that the bezel will be minimal.
The source claims that the X Phone should look even smaller than the 4.7-inch Samsung Galaxy S3 as a result.
So why the ‘X Phone’ branding and not another Nexus? According to the source, it’s because this will be Motorola’s first cross-network Google phone (it’s typically tied to Verizon over in the US). This is a new universal brand for the manufacturer.
Apparently, the X Phone will be the first device to ship with Android 5.0, which is also being dubbed Key Lime Pie. Indeed, the X Phone’s announcement will be synonymous with the new Android OS at this year’s Google I/O event in May.
One final aspect that has us slightly worried – Motorola is apparently working on a new UI for the phone that “both compliments & enhances the Android experience,” and its meant to be quite Nexus-like in appearance. The company is also working on some Samsung-like software additions to enhance the OS’s functionality.
One of the big selling points for the Nexus series (like the current Google Nexus 4) is the fact that it offers the pure Android experience. It would be a shame if the next officially endorsed Google phone forgot that.
Given the anonymous nature of the tip – and the fact that it hasn’t been corroborated by any other sources as yet – it suggests that this rumour shouldn’t be taken as fact just yet.
