Google has announced it will hold the first Project Ara developer conference in April.
Project Ara is a modular smartphone prototype that Google is apparently looking to bring to market, of which this developer conference is a strong indication.
The Project Ara developer conference will be held at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California on April 15 – 16.
The conference will introduce the Project Ara Developers’ Kit (MDK) to order to let them begin building module compatible with the smartphone.
“The Developers’ Conference will consist of a detailed walk-through of existing and planning features of the Ara platform, a briefing and community feedback sessions on the alpha MDK, and an announcement of a series of prize challenges for module developers”, explained Google on the Project Ara website.
It seems this conference is the first in a series of three throughout 2014, which will be broadcast via live stream to any interested parties.
Google will announce the full conference agenda in the next few weeks.
Project Ara has the potential to let you build your own perfect smartphone. All you’ll need to do is remove and replace module on the exoskeleton according to your own preferences.
If you want a QWERTY keyboard or are obsessed by a really good rear camera, then you can introduce the modules that suit your needs.
Google plans to create a module store where you’ll be able to buy new modules or upgrade your existing ones as they become available.
Motorola was previously responsible for Project Ara, but seeing as the company was bought by Lenovo earlier this year, the Google Advance Technology and Projects group has taken over.
The first Project Ara prototype photographs were posted on Google Plus earlier this week, showing that extensive work is being carried out behind closed doors.
