A new update for the Google Play Store Android app should be arriving with Android 4.4 KitKat later this month.
According to some leaked screenshots, a complete redesign of the Google Play Store is on the cards, due to arrive as a 4.4 update to the Android app.
The images obtained by AndroidPolice suggest that Google will be moving to a “hamburger” style slide out navigation system for the Play Store 4.4 update in the near future.
Currently the 4.3.11 version of the app crams everything into a single menu, but the new style should make the store easier to navigate, especially for smaller screens.
The store’s various sections, including Store Home, My Apps, Movies & TV, Shop, My Wishlist and Redeem will all have their very own tabs with the new update. The drop-down menu will soon only offer Settings and Help menu access.
The screenshots are from a work-in progress UI for the Google Play Store, so some of the design could change before it launches sometime this month.
If and when it launches, the Android app will be compatible with any device running Android 2.2 or higher.
The Google Play Store 4.4 update should launch alongside Android 4.4 KitKat later this month. Earlier this week, a Google Nexus 5 release date was teased for October 30 by Amazon.
However, the official KitKat twitter feed has been dropping hints that Android KitKat will launch on October 28 in a series of cryptic clues.
Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to bring its own mini-redesign to Android devices and offer new features like Tap & Pay NFC functionality and cloud printing.
The fonts have been streamlined for Android 4.4 KitKat too, with the bold fonts disappearing from in-built apps, as seen in the latest Android 4.4. KitKat build seen running on a Nexus 7 2.
