Google is celebrating the first anniversary of its Play Store with a series of offers that will extend throughout the week.
It was just 12 months ago today that Google rebranded the Android Market with a snazzy new look and an all-new name – Google Play. This new service pulled in all app, book, music and movie purchases under one brand.
To mark that event, the company has launched a week of celebratory promotions and offers on apps, movies, music, and books.
At the moment you can buy The Bourne Identity for just £2.99 – that’s 50p more than it is to rent it. Meanwhile cheesy page-turner Edge of Never is currently down from £5.99 to 99p. Exciting.
The game Yumby Smash has received a whole new limited edition character as part of the celebratione, while the excellent tower defence game, Royal Revolt, has made its Android-exclusive birthday levels available to play.
In terms of music, albums from a diverse array of artists including Elvis, Pink, Foo Fighters and Abba are all being discounted at present.
Okay, so none of these deals are particularly earth-shattering, but it’s early days yet. You can expect an ever-changing – and hopefully improving – roster of offers over the coming days as more and more app developers, record companies and distributors get into the party mood.
