Google Play Movies & TV app gets Apple TV support
Google’s video content app for iOS has added vital Apple TV support, as well as a few other useful features.
The Google Play Movies & TV app will be familiar to Android users. It’s essentially Google’s equivalent of iTunes – or at least the part of iTunes that lets you rent and purchase movies and TV shows.
But Google Play Movies & TV is also available for iOS, providing an (often great value) alternative service to Apple’s own. Naturally, it suffers in comparison when it comes to integration into Apple’s ecosystem, but that particular problem has just become a little less severe.
Version 2.0.7910 of the Google Play Movies & TV iOS app is a sizeable update. It adds support for AirPlay, Apple’s wireless media streaming protocol. This in turn enables the app to output video content to Apple TV, and continue using your iPhone as normal while it’s playing.
Besides this and a new design, another notable addition to Google Play Movies & TV for iOS is mobile streaming. This means that you can finally stream movies and TV shows over a mobile network. Naturally, that’s going to eat up an awful lot of data, but there are plenty of contract packages here in the UK that can handle that.

You can also stream content in HD, and Google has implemented a new “Recommended by Play” feature that suggests content based on your viewing history. It’s a pretty basic feature, but at least it’s here now.
The latest version of Google Play Movies & TV is available to download now from the App Store.
