Google Now officially hits Chrome

Google has begun rolling out Google Now notifications to its Chrome browser for Windows and Mac.

At the beginning of February we reported that Google had added Google Now notifications to the beta version of Chrome. Now that beta period appears to be finished, and Google Now has come to Chrome proper.

Starting out life on Android back in 2012, Google Now provides a number of smart notifications that take into account your location, travel habits, browsing history, and more. It then provides pertinent updates through a clear card-based interface.

These might take the form of travel route recommendations for your daily commute, using Google Maps’s traffic-monitoring capabilities to propose alternative routes and departure times.

Weather and sports score updates are two other common Google Now notifications you’ll encounter.

Google claims that Google Now has started rolling out to Chrome browsers on Windows and Mac, but that it may take a few weeks to filter through to everyone. To enable it, just ensure that you’re signed into Chrome on the same account as you use for Google Now on Android or iOS.

Over on the Google Now support page, it’s noted that some of the cards on this new version will use the location data provided by your phone. Obviously you’ll usually have your phone with you anyway, but in the event that you don’t there may be some confusion.
