Google: No Plans for Nexus Q UK Release

Google has stated that there are currently no plans to bring the Nexus Q media streamer to the UK, which launched last night alongside the Google Nexus 7 Android tablet.

The Google Nexus Q will act as a rival for the Apple TV set-top box, letting you easily stream music and video from a mobile device – a smartphone or tablet – to your TV or home hi-fi. However, Google communications public affairs manager Stephen Rosenthal said “there are no plans as yet” for a UK release, when talking to Pocket-lint.

Still bemused as to what the Nexus Q actually does? It’s a 4.6in ball that offers no speakers and minimal control – the top half of it is a volume knob, but that’s it. It pairs with a tablet or phone over NFC, has a 25W amp for connection to passive speakers and offers microHDMI, optical audio, microUSB and Ethernet ports.

It’s a strange an unusual device that’s interesting enough to make us wish it was heading our way sooner. The Google Nexus Q will be available in the US in mid-July, and will cost $299.
