Google Nexus Tablet Pics Leaked?

Pictures claiming to be renders of the upcoming Google Nexus tablet have been leaked, and suggest that Toshiba could be at the design helm for the tab.

Renders of a mystery tablet have been published by PocketNow, and there’s speculation that these could be of the rumoured “official” Google Nexus tablet. With squared-off edges, rather than a more tapered style, and all-round good connectivity, our best bet is that Toshiba is behind this tablet. However, if true, it’ll be the first time Toshiba has had a hand in the Nexus range.

Nexus devices have been used over the past few years to show off the latest Android innovations, debuting new versions of the operating system. The first, the Google Nexus One of 2010, was made by HTC. Since then, Samsung has taken the helm with the Nexus S and more recent Galaxy Nexus. As Toshiba – to date – has been a bit-part player in the tablet market, this team-up seems somewhat unlikely.

What do we know about the tablet so far? The pictures are telling. It’ll offer good connectivity, with what appear to be microUSB, microHDMI, SD card and 3G SIM sockets. On its underside are stereo speakers, and there’s a pinhole microphone on one edge.

There has been no confirmation that this is a Google-branded tablet, but if it is, what would it need to get you interested? To date, no Android tablet has come close to challenging the sales power of the Apple iPad. And, from what we can see, there’s no magic fairy dust going on here to change that.
