Google Nexus Prime launch event date revealed?

Invites to a launch event by Samsung on 11th October suggest we’ll see the unveiling of the Google Nexus Prime, the first handset to run the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android.

The invites were sent out by Samsung but the event is dubbed a “Google Episode” where attendees will get the chance to “look at what’s new from Android”, suggesting this may be the unveiling of the much anticipated software update.

Samsung Google Nexus Prime

The Nexus Prime is set to be the launch handset for the Ice Cream Sandwich update to Android, which will be the first version of the OS to work on both phones and tablets. The Prime will be Samsung’s second launch phone for a new version of Android, with the Google Nexus S being the first phone to feature Android 2.3. This is despite Google having recently bought mobile manufacturer, Motorola Mobility. It also chose not to rekindle its partnership with HTC who made the original Google Nexus One.

The Google Nexus Prime is expected to be a powerful device, with a large 4.5in , 1,280 x 720 pixel screen a dual-core processor and 4G connectivity in the US.

The only oddity is that were this such a big launch, one might expect it to be a Google led event. In which case, this could just be the unveiling of some new Samsung phones running existing versions of Android. Here’s hoping it’s the former rather than the latter though.
