Google Maps is now available on the Apple Watch

Apple Watch users who still shudder at the prospect of using the much-improved Apple Maps app now have the ultimate alternative.

Yes, an update to Google Maps for iOS now includes support for the Apple Watch (via 9to5Mac).

While there’s no graphical map interface, the updated app enables does allow users to see route directions on Apple’s first wearable device.

Google Maps for Apple Watch also enables users to search for directions to Home or Work, while also bringing up recently searched routes.

The presence of Google Maps on the Apple Watch joins Mountain View’s News & Weather app. The firm is yet to roll out staples like Gmail or YouTube.

Of course, Google is about to shake up the smartphone scene in a much bigger way by offering iOS support for Android Wear watches.

Elsewhere the iOS update also offers ETA’s for cycling and walking routes, as well as car journeys.

The new app drops on the same day Google announced a host of new Apple-rivalling products like the new Chromecast, Nexus phones and Pixel C tablet.
