Image recognition technology and news timelines should prove extremely helpful.
Google has been showing Gmail a whole lotta love in 2009 but now it has also dealt out the hugs and kisses to Google Labs.
The search leviathan has announced two rather useful new projects ‘Google Similar Images’ and ‘News Timeline’.
The former should be ideal for those who use Google Image search on a regular basis (the topic of your interest I couldn’t possibly guess) as it uses image recognition technology to filter results for the end user. In the examples given by Google a user will be able to search for ‘Jaguar’ and ask it to differentiate between the animal or cars, pick out specific locations, monuments, products or even specific poses for celebrities (SafeSearch is off!).
As for the second, ‘News Timeline’ is exactly as it sounds: it allows Google news results to be displayed in a chronological timeline to provide users with a simple overview of the news at any specific day, week, month, year or decade. Should prove a boon for journalists, know-it-alls and anyone researching/reminiscing.
In typical Google fashion, both announced projects are immediately available to try out.
