Google Glass Consumer Edition delayed until 2015?
The Google Glass Consumer Edition release has been delayed until 2015, latest reports have suggested.
Although the smart eyewear has been grabbing consumers’ attentions for a number of years, the wearable has remained available only in very limited – and hugely expensive – batches to date.
While Google has previously expressed plans to offer an affordable, mass market Google Glass device to consumers this year, it now appears these plans have been pushed back.
Citing an unnamed ‘person familiar with the matter’, news house Reuters has claimed that the Google Glass Consumer Edition launch has been pushed back until an undisclosed point in 2015.
With the wait for the heads-up display touting tech going mainstream continuing to lengthen, developers have reportedly started abandoning the exciting tech.
“If there were 200 million Google Glasses sold, it would be a different perspective,” Little Guy Guys CEO and Glass developer Tom Frencel said.
He added: “
Despite reports of delays and developer unrest Google – yet to confirm the postponed release – has remained positive of the future of Glass.
“We are completely energised and as energised as ever about the opportunity that wearables and Glass in particular represent,” Goggle’s Head of Business Operations for Glass, Chris O’Neill said.
He added: “We are as committed as ever to a consumer launch. That is going to take time and we are not going to launch this product until it’s absolutely ready.”
The Google Play Explorer Edition was launched in the UK earlier this year following a lengthy period of exclusivity Stateside. Although available for purchase, the developer edition of the eyewear will set wannabe owners back a wallet-breaking £1,000.
