Google Chrome adds iOS 8 extension support

Google has updated its popular Chrome web browser app for iOS to support the new app extensions facility of iOS 8.

Many iPhone and iPad users turn to Google Chrome for their web browsing needs ahead of Apple’s own perfectly decent Safari app. Not only is it quick, clean, and intuitive, but Chrome also syncs seamlessly with the even more popular desktop version.

With the introduction of iOS 8, Apple’s Safari gained the ability of being able to share links to third party apps. Google has added the same ability to Chrome.

Now, when you go into the Share feature in the main Chrome menu, you’ll be presented with the same sharing options as can be found elsewhere in iOS 8. Besides the default Message, Mail, and Facebook options, you can hit the More button and add third party apps like Facebook, Pocket, and Pinterest.

Once activated, you’ll be able to send web stories straight to these compatible apps for later reading, sharing, or whatever the chosen app does with such things.

It’s not quite the numerous and ultra-useful extensions found on the web version of Google Chrome, and of course the Android version of Chrome has offered such a feature for ages now. Still, it’s a welcome offering given Apple’s previous arms-length approach to third party applications.

The latest bersion of Google Chrome is available to download for free from the iOS App Store.
