Google Assistant launches for iPad – here’s how to download it

Google Assistant is now available for the iPad.

Assistant has been optimised to work with the iPad’s multitasking feature, according to Big G, affording users the option to control accessories, request information and schedule events within a resizable Split View window.

The Assistant client for the iPad and iPhone are near-identical, with the main difference being that it can be used in either landscape or portrait, or in a Split View window, on the former – the rest of the features are the same.

“Assistant on iPad can do everything the Assistant on your iPhone can do, with the added benefit of a bigger screen that supports both portrait and landscape mode,” noted Google in a post published over on its The Keyword blog.

The firm then proceeded to outline a number of scenarios where Assistant could come in handy around the house:

  • Set the mood by having the Assistant “dim the lights”
  • Cast to your TV by asking the Assistant to “watch the latest news on the living room TV”
  • Stay in touch by asking the Assistant to “video call mom” or “text Lauren”
  • Keep up with your chores by asking the Assistant to “remind me to take out the recycling at 8 PM”

Google Assistant for iPad is available to download from the App Store starting today. It’s configurable in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish – with more languages set to be added in the future.
