Google’s new Chromecast Audio supports an impressive roster of music-streaming services, but Apple Music is an unfortunate no-show.
However, it turns out that it’s not a snub by Google, but rather inaction on the part of Apple.
When asked by TrustedReviews whether Google had requested that Apple support Chromecast Audio, an official Google representative said: “We certainly have.”
Unfortunately, it’s not yet clear why Apple didn’t get on board with the platform at launch, despite Chromecast Audio supporting iOS devices.
The representative told us that Google currently has no bar on any platform joining in, including Apple.
“So iTunes Music.
He continued: “So if Apple does that, then it supports iTunes Music.”
We’ve asked Apple for comment on the matter, and we’ll update this article with any response.
Google unveiled Chromecast Audio yesterday evening, alongside the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones, revealing the device as an all-new entry to the Chromecast family.
Just like Chromecast’s future-proofing relationship with TVs, Chromecast Audio bridges the gap between dumb speakers and the world of apps and streaming services.
It connects to a speaker through the standard 3.5mm audio jack, and lets you cast music to the speaker over Wi-Fi.
The software side of the system works similarly to Sonos, albeit without a clunky middleman app.

There are a number of services already on board with Chromecast Audio, including Google’s Play Music, Deezer, Pandora, audio-book platform Audible, and current market leader Spotify.
