As if instant software updates and the lack of custom user interfaces or bloatware wasn’t enough, Google may be about to offer yet another incentive for Android fans to snap-up a Nexus device.
A teardown of the forthcoming Google Photos update (v1.21) indicates that the company is about to offer users free, unlimited photo and video storage at original quality resolution.
Android Police (via CNET) discovered a line in the code reading: “Unlimited free storage for original quality photos — videos uploaded from your Nexus device.”
Right now, resolution is capped at 16-megapixels, which is still rather huge, especially given the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X only have 12.3 megapixel cameras.

It’ll be more of a boost for those recording video on the 4K-capable video camera, who’ll no longer have to settle for 1080p back-ups.
It’s not yet clear when Google plans to serve up the update for Nexus device owners, or whether the feature will be rollout out to other Android users.
Android Police also points out it’ll be interesting to see how this works with photos that aren’t taken by a Nexus device.
If serious photographers were able to upload their 40-megapixel photos via the Nexus, that could be a huge boon to photographers.
