The Last Guardian developer’s studio teases new game with a giant beast

The Last Guardian developer Gen Design has released an image teasing a new game, potentially suggesting player will be interacting with another giant mythical beast.

Gen Design, which is led by Fumito Ueda, known for creating stylish, original hit games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, posted a picture with the title ‘Beauty and the Beast 2018”, reported Eurogamer.

The picture depicts a person sat on a stone dais or alter under a thin beam of light which is also illuminating a massive fist that appears to be made out of stone or hard grey skin.

There’s little in the way of further information to suggest what the game could entail. But the last game Gen Design worked on was The Last Guardian which saw the player character explore a world with a giant dog meets bird and dragon type beast called Trico, so this teased game could be some form of follow up or spiritual successor.

Alternatively, the ‘beast’ could be the main antagonist of the game, which the player must escape or defeat in a similar vein to Shadow of the Colossus; though that game is being given a remaster for Sony’s PlayStation 4 so we’d expect Gen Design’s game to not follow a similar premise to Shadow of the Colossus.

But Ueda told Eurogamer last summer that he was working on a new project and intended it to be different from his previous work: “When I start to create our games, always I think we will create something different. But as a result, in the three games there are some similarities, a feeling. In the process of operation there’s a moment when one game links with another. But I don’t put it in at the start – it happens in the process.”

If the teased game is indeed a new project then our current speculation could be quite far form the mark. We’ll have to wait an see what Gen Design comes up with as and when more details are released.
