Ubisoft is giving away free copies of Watch Dogs 2 this weekend

To celebrate Ubisoft Forward this weekend, the publisher has announced it will be giving away free copies of Watch Dogs 2 on PC.

The upcoming sequel, Watch Dogs Legion, will be showcased during the upcoming digital presentation, so this is likely a way for Ubisoft to drum up hype and bring players up to speed with the game’s universe.

In order to gain your free copy of the game, all you need to do is log into UPlay during this Sunday’s Ubisoft Forward event and redeem a copy of the game. After that, it will be in your digital library forever.

It’s an excellent open-world adventure, and even better for free. You do have to download UPlay though, which is a subjective bummer.

Ubisoft Forward is the publisher’s digital replacement for its annual press conference, and is set to feature Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and a rebrand of Gods and Monsters, a fantasy title which was unveiled last year, and looked an awful lot like Breath of the Wild

Some other rumours have also surfaced regarding the event in recent weeks, including the existence of Far Cry 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X. It could potentially star Giancarlo Esposito as the game’s villain, who you might recognise as Gustavo Fring from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

First released in 2017, Watch Dogs 2 was a big improvement over its predecessor, largely thanks to Ubisoft injecting a much needed dose of personality into its world and characters. It was no longer a bland and miserable hacking adventure about Aiden Pierce and his silly hat.

Here’s what we had to say in our 4/5 review: “Watch Dogs 2 is no great leap forward, but it sees the series headed in the right direction with more colour, more flair and a real sense of fun. The action’s solid and the mission design much less generic, while Ubisoft Montreal has given you a great set of tools and the freedom to use them as you will.”
